PakTech Handles
- DON’T put them in curbside recycling
- DO drop them off at one of the local breweries that does collection of these handles for recycling
About These Items
These plastic items are used as carrier handles for a variety of products, from sets of beer cans to jars of salsa. These handles are not accepted through the city of Pittsburgh’s curbside recycling program.
These handles are all #2 HDPE plastic. The company that makes them promotes the idea of recycling and reusing them. There are at least two local breweries that use these handles for their own beer products and also accept drop-offs or used handles to reuse or recycle. Both have said that they would accept even Paktech handles from other sources. See below for more details.
Drop off to recycle.
There are at least two local breweries who use PakTech handles when selling their beer. Both reuse these handles when they can (if the handles are in good condition) and recycle them if not. Since both of these breweries use recycling services that differ from the City’s curbside recycling partner, they can recycle these handles in their business recycling. Both will allow you to drop off your own handles at their locations to be recycled even if you did not get those handles from their product.

Do you know another location that will accept these handles? Let us know.
PakTech website contains recycling information.
PakTech has a prominent recycling section on their website: https://paktech-opi.com/recycle/
*Note that Recycle This Pittsburgh has found that the drop-off map on the PakTech website is not accurate. It does not list one of the local breweries which does accept these handles for recycling and also incorrectly lists a PRC location as accepting these handles (they don’t.)
