About These Items

These thin plastic bags are a staple of the grocery produce section. Unfortunately, these bags can take hundreds of years to decompose and can not be placed in the city’s curbside recycling.

There are several locations in the city where you can drop off these plastic bags for recycling. (see below)

Avoid these bags by using reusable produce bags.

You can get reusable produce bags to use that are lightweight and easy to carry with you. If you’re already bringing your own bag to replace plastic grocery bags, why not keep some re-usable produce bags on hand as well?

Drop them off at dedicated local locations.

There are some local locations where you can drop off plastic bags and other flexible film plastics. The Plastic Film Recycling.org site keeps an up-to-date list that is searchable by zip code.
These local chains typically have plastic bag collection bins on site:

  • Giant Eagle
  • Target
  • Lowes
  • Whole Foods
